Xud11 Block

Hi,

 

Have put apart XUD11 engine the other day and looking at the block bores I don't quite understand where's the catch.

 

Every other XU petrol engine I have put apart has had worn bores, even low mileage ones, one could feel the edge and honing markings were pretty much all gone.

 

Where here everything looks like at the day it was fired for the first time. Honing marks are there, there is no lip and overall block looks in very good condition.

 

Now, did Pug use different materials for diesel blocks or is this effect down to lower speeds, bigger/different pistons rings etc. ?

probably down to the lives these engines lead, how often do they see 4k rpm!

 

the bores of al the Diesel engines I've seen have been in fair condition even with 200k+ on them, though I haven't measured them to see how much wear has taken place the honing marks were still visible and lo lip bar the carbon buildup.

Agree that they don't often see 4k and probably see a lot less trashing that petrol ones, but even at 200k miles they still look like new.

 

Local Cit garage once changed head gasket on 500k mile!!! XU11D engine and the guy who changed it told me that even on that one there were still honing marks and almost no lip in there.

Yes, low revs is one thin, also the piston rings are so thick compared to the petrol engines, so I guess it's a combination of those two...

Yeah, I also thought so, but still can't believe it's mainly down only by these two factors, though rings really are massive.
