Rear Beam Bad Luck?

Recommended Posts

Guest Mark D

Hi all,

Bought a 205 Turbo Diesel which is a great little car. One area I knew needed looking at was the rear beam. Didn't feel right so spent an hour checking it out and yes there was excessive play in one side. Read the removal article on the site and sourced a second hand beam, which was great on the car it came off including good ride height.

After it has been on the car for just over a month I could hear creaking, and the height has dropped (!!) a good 30mm, checked it and again play on the rear arm going into the beam. So looks like another beam or a rebuild which I have the parts for but not the confidence.

Not sure what has caused this, but feel two options.

1. The scrappy switched the beam I saw for the one I have now (outside the 30 day return as well)!

2. The beam was on it's way out and it's bad luck!

Could there be any other reasonable explanations to this apparent sudden failure?

Mark

If the one on your car was knackered then there is no reason for another second hand one to be just the same. Second hand rear beams are purely a lottery, if you want to guarantee a good one then it needs to come apart for inspection and then remedial work as required.
