mmt 15 Posted August 17, 2008 The rearwheels on my 205 with 309 beam hits the inner(not the plastic part) wheelarches when I turn. I´ve cut the edge of the plastic part of the wheelarches. The wheels hit i further up inside the arches. I want as little modification as possible. How do I solve this problem? /Martin
welshpug 1,657 Posted August 17, 2008 use a more sensible ride height or a 205 beam.
mmt 15 Posted August 17, 2008 :-) Thanks! Forgot to say that the solution does not have to be an easy one:-) Prefer to keep the height as it is. /Martin
boombang 2 Posted August 17, 2008 I "tweaked" the arches on mine before spraying it to give extra clearance. On the basis the plastic mouldings cover the metal edge, you can't see any difference.
jonnygoodhand 0 Posted August 17, 2008 I've recently had to cut the rear arches on my rallye (rallye rear arches are considerably smaller than GTI), so I could fit some 15" 6.75J wheels. http://forum.205gtidrivers.com/index.php?s...mp;#entry834606 I did plan on using a grinder, but ended up using these antique 'tin snips', which were more than up for the job. mmt 15 Posted August 17, 2008 Thanks. Do you have any before/after pictures? How much iron dit you cut away? /Martin
jonnygoodhand 0 Posted August 17, 2008 The only pics I have, are the ones posted in the original thread, I'm afraid. I ended up cutting approx 2", then each 'tab' was about 1", giving about 3" extra clearance overall.
Batfink 201 Posted August 17, 2008 can't the rear arch be rolled out? I know its not a decent curve but it still must be possible?? I dont think I can get a nail under mine lol
mmt 15 Posted August 17, 2008 I´ve tried rolling it out with a rod between the tyre abd the steelarc. But it seems that it needs a lot more force! The rod just "dives" into the tyre! How do you roll the arch out?
Batfink 201 Posted August 17, 2008 there are special tools that bolt to the hub
gazzamec 0 Posted August 19, 2008 try dropping a tyre profile if you like it low, on the plus side it will be even lowe.
