Mi 16 Head On 406 1-8 / 2.0 ?

Basically, is this a possible cheap and cheerful alternative to repair a 1.9 MI with knackered bottom end? these engines are plentiful at the scrappy and I have a 16v 1.9 head......I'd assume I could then use the MI engine mounts and dizzy adapter on 8v injection?

Parts I have - cash is another matter!

It's do-able, but probably a bit pointless IMO. It's questionable how the Mi management would handle a capacity change.

I'm running a 2.0 S16 on 1.9 Mi16 AFM management and its absolutely fine. The other way round with MAP sensor etc might be an issue I suppose but the AFM copes fine.

I;ve done a few of those conversion's too, running 1.9 Motronic on the 2L S16 engine and if anything I think they go better than the S16 stuff if in good condition,

But on the 8v stuff it would run but how well is anyone's guess

Thing is....... I've come across a VERY cheap Ph1 1.9 with t&t but knackered big ends, so would replace the engine if I bought it. It also cropped up in conversation this week how difficult it's getting to pick up a GOOD XU engine. As I have a complete MI engine (seized through standing) and a dizzy converter- I thought " why not use a 16v 406 with my MI head? for the same outlay as a prob. questionable 8V it should make sense? and would be a good base for further improvement. I'd have the choice of 1.6 & 1.9 injection gear.

My main worries are that there could be problems with compression / piston clearance and any problems with rotation ratios of cams to crank? (Bit outside my normal "keep it running" type spanner work)
