8v Engine Holding Back Then Cutting Out When Warm?

Recommended Posts

ultimatepug

my 309 gti is hesitating, holding back when accelerating, on my way home last night it gradually got worse, then it cut out and would not re start. after 10 mins or so it restarted.

would i be right in thinking its something to do with the ignition system?

right....

tried some easy start, nothing...

removed a plug and turned over, no spark...

so am i right in thinking its either the dizzy cap/arm, coil or the dizzy itself?

Disconnect the king lead from the dizzy and connect a spark plug to it, if you dont get a spark clean the coil connections, if it still doesnt work you're looking at getting a known good coil/ignition amp to test.

If your car has an o2 sensor it sounds like that has failed, if not check your fuel pressure. Hope this helps.

replaced the amp, coil and dizzy cap and arm with no joy. removed an old alarm which was not working, this seems to of sorted it? it was stopping the injectors letting the fuel through? seems to be ok now the alarms gone?
