Mi16 Engine Refusing To Start

Recommended Posts

dcc

A 205 enthusiast and my self put a mi16 engine into my 205 nearly 2 months ago.

We think the engine might have come from a bx as the inlet had a blanker over the vacumn from the master cylinder.

We followed precisely what was done to the other gentlemans car, using the dizzy adapter from constella.

However, the engine does not want to start.

There is plenty of fuel at the rail

There is a decent spark from the coil

Have tried another ignition amp (the 16v one) and no difference

We had it running once, for a few seconds, but we had to cover the AFM so no air would be getting into the engine?

have checked almost every thing i can think of.

The engine turns over on the starter fine, but it just wont catch.

Fitted brand new spark plugs and leads. The plugs are from an 8v, though they looked to be the same as the 16v plugs.

- Do 8v spark plugs fit?

- Where could my problem lay?

- Are there any people who could help in the south Wales Area, or people who would travel down to me to help out?

I have to get this car running within the next 8-10 days, my old man has threatend to get it scrapped!

We are using the 8v management as used in many other similar conversions. Before somebody says to use the 16v management, I want to get it running on the 8v management first to make sure it runs well.

If somebody could help it would be amazing.

Please pm me for my phone number if you can help.

Many Thanks

Daniel.

Have you got the engine timed up correctly? as I know the Dizzy adaptor's vary allot so I'd check that say Number 1 is number 1 on the cap, I'm not sure if I have seen a Constella one but with all the one's I have seen the lead position's are quite funny

An 8v spark plug will physically fit but aren't really the correct plugs for an Mi16. A good spark from any plugs should start the car though if everything else is correct.

Like Miles suggests, if everything else is right, check the timing of the dizzy because there might not be enough adjustment on the slots to get it firing at the right time in the cycle.

Graham.
