Doof 11 Posted August 14, 2008 I've had my gti'6 manifold shotblasted and want to paint it now but don't know whether to just spray it or if i should primer it first? Any ideas anyone, don't want to lose the shotblasted finish and end up with it smooth. Cheers, Lewis
Last Legend 0 Posted August 14, 2008 When I painted my manifold on my old concours car after having it shot blasted I used a special manifold paint from Frosts think it was called new cast-direct to bare metal make sure you get the manifold one NOT exhaust one as the latter won't last on the manifold. Paintguy 0 Posted August 19, 2008 No other thoughts on this? Only to suggest what's already been suggested If you start going into the whole primer - paint - lacquer routine, then you're going to lose that finish that you want to keep. Have a look at either Detail Grey or Aluma Blast on Frost's site, as they sound ideal.

Im looking to have my engine in a 1.6 gti sitting in factory concours condition but want it protected so that it won't corode. This product sounds like something im after. If I leave it bare it will just corode again, and i don't want to paint it black if possible. Want the original look.
Paintguy 0 Posted August 21, 2008 Nope, I've never used the stuff myself, but every other Frost supplied product that I have used has been good quality, and exactly as described, so I can't see this being any different. Plus those two paints are made by Eastwoods, who have a very good reputation too
