Tu3s Automatic Advance-retard Diaphram

Recommended Posts

Guest Tom306

The diaphram on my XS no longer works and the petrol consumption characterises some kind of v8 :o

I was wondering if any one can get the part number for it, also has any one brought one recently. I assume it's only a dealer thing

The Vacum advance on the side of the dizzy is what i assume your on about. I may have a spare one on a broken dizzy that you could have, let me check this weekend.

there the symptoms i am guessing but is there no physical way to check, as surely that could be blamed on carb aswell as other things if you get my point. Its ok , only reason i am asking if my xs had silly fuel consumption, so im renewing all fuel lines etc incase of splits, rebuilding the carb, just thinking is there a way i could check the vac advance unit.

you can check if it´s broken, by sucking on the connecting hose - if you feel no resistance, it´s broken, if you suck (sorry *g*) and it clicks, it isn´t broken.

No it doesnt matter if the engine is running or not. All it is inside is a diaphragm that uses vacuum to pull a lever. If you can suck air through it, its broken. If you can't suck anything through it and as said above you can hear a click its ok.

I wouldn't have thought that a broken vacuum diapraghm would give you the rubbish MPG you are experiencing though?

It wouldn't. The diapraghm yob is to retard ignition when you put the pedal to the flor at low rpm. As far as I know it can't retard more than the dizzy.

There will be no better mpg if you change it, just no hesitation at low rpm. The problem is elsewere.
