timmsy19 3 Posted August 14, 2008 Hi all well car went in for its MOT today after being off the road for 3 years. i thought it would fail on alot more Offside front wheel bearing Offside brake little or no effort rear brake application uneven nearside position lamp not working offside rear fog not working all in all not to bad i dont think first question. how easy is it to replace the front wheel bearing? im thinking the rear caliper is siezed or is there any other things which would cause this? Tom Fenton 1,541 Posted August 14, 2008 Not too bad a list at all. Couple of standard Peugeot electrical gremlins, a wheel bearing and a brake issue. Wheel bearing is not that hard to change IF you have a press. If you don't have a press then really you will need to take the front upright to someone that does, and get them to press the old bearing out, and press a new one in for you. As for the rear brake, it could be a caliper problem, although it is usually the handbrake mechanism that seizes, not the hydraulic piston. It could also be that one of the compensators is knackered, this is also quite common. Try bleeding fluid from the side that isn't working, if you get little or nothing through then this points to the compensator being at fault. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
timmsy19 3 Posted August 14, 2008 Thanks Tom. Might be worth getting the the mechanic to do the work then as i have no access to a press. Im quite certain that the rear brake is becasue the caliper is siezed as when i changed the pads it was a huge effort to move to piston but could be wrong. If it has little or no effort and uneven braking would this point more the the compensator? returnofjim 0 Posted August 14, 2008 if you have a good vice and an old wheel bearing to press the new one in you can do it, but if theres a garage close to you they should charge you a fiver at most to press the bearing in, some garages will do it for free round here. Hi I am sure that the front bearings are a press fit so its a hub off job. find somewhere that will press them in for you should be cheap as if you take it apart tho! Hope this helps , Gareth.
