Cti To Gti Front Suspesion Swop

Recommended Posts

I wonder if anyone could give me some advice please??? I recently bought a CTI and it drives like a boat and thinking of changing the subframe/bottom arms and front legs from a GTI I'm breaking to stiffen the front up a tad. I mentioned this to a mate of mine who took the car for an MOT today and he said that they're soft upfront to compensate for the shell flex which makes sence and added if I change it the shell flex would be worse?? I'm sure this has been done before and is it worth while swapping??? :o

I've done this to a couple of CTis now (mainly as I already had the GTi stuff handy, too) Can't say I've noticed extra flex, scuttle shake or anything - I didn't find that the standard CTi set up was particularly "wallowy" to start with, though. I wouldn't swap over if both were in good condition, but it sounds like yours may be worn anyway? Try swapping over the struts first, and see if this helps out. My silver CTi was silly-low when I bought it, though - the standard GTi set up is a def. improvement on that!

The car has only done 70,000 from new but has been stored in a garage for 6 years and seems pretty well cared for when used. But from what you say it's not right so I'll be swapping the lot over the weekend,Cheers Steve for the reply :o
