Mi16 Strip

Hi

I am stripped down my engine this weekend to try and get to the bottom of the low oil pressure issue with my Mi.

I do have a spare 1.9 8v engine which has a new bottom end, oil pump, bearings etc...Is there anything which I could use off this 8v bottom end which would fit a 16v bottom end....?

Thanks

Nope, the only thing that'll fit is the oil pump, sump and spacer plate. You dont want to ever reuse bearings and the 1.9 8v block has completely different oil/water ways and pistons rods crank etc.

you're wrong there, the oil and waterways are compatible, crank and rods differ but are usable.

if the bottom end is known to have been rebuilt recently and assembles with good clearances its fine to use them.

How can that be? For a starters the 8v pistons are dished surely the compression ratio will b completely out? Just curious, if the 8v bottom end can be used then fair enough, but never heard of it without some major mods before.

Miles

The blocks are fairly similiar really, Just the spray bar and some extra ribbing that differ's. Many 16v blocks are used on 8v builds.

Parts wise everything is swapable bar the pistons and rods unless you get them machined, Bearing's I would not use again but it's your call really. Oil pumps rarly give problems unless it's a cheap pattern one

thing is they had only done 1,000 miles (main and big end bearings) so they should be fine..?
