Recommended Posts

Has anyone done this and noticed any difference to handling?

Can 280mm brakes be fit with brackets?

What shafts can be used? are the drive flanges interchangeable between 1.9 and 1.6? Your help would be much aprreciated

Shafts don't have flanges but splines and no they're not inter-changeable.

Have known a number cars to break 1.6 shafts once over 160bhp. Also the wheel bearings are smaller which many people over look.

The 1.6 track is great and providing the shafts are new they will see good service with a 2L engine providing its not silly power, I've done a track day car with this set up but on old shafts and it gets abused most of the time and 2 years down the line all is still fine.

As paul has said the wheel bearing's tend to pack up after around 80k miles, The 1.9 ones which are also the same as most 309 and 306 last twice as long

There where some big brake conversion brakcet's once I know, If these still exist I have no idea

40+ sprints, couple of track days, 168bhp, 1.6 shafts, half of which were done with slicks, rest 1b's and no issues

I've personally bust a 1600 shaft in my Mi16 track car so then moved up to 1900 stuff, but the 1600 will work for a bit, as Miles says it depends on whether they are new shafts or tired old ones as to how long they will last.

Thanks for help guys, think il stick with 1.9 as im hoping for over 200hp with slicks in future. Are the hollow 306 ones significantly lighter than 1.9 hubs, ignoring the camber differences?

Not significantly, no - I'll try to weigh them tonight if I get chance seeing as I've both types at home, but I doubt there's even as much as a kilo in it in truth.
