Autofive Big Brake Kit For 1.6

Recommended Posts

Guest 205bandit

I ordered the Autofive big brake kit for my 1.6 the other day

(Kit has 283mm discs - grooved, 2 adaptors to space out the reach on you're existing calipers to allow the bigger rotor, and the nessary bolts etc, and EBC green stuff pads)

It cost over £250, I think, and the adaptors were made not too bad, but a bit of work with a file got them to fit fine.

But when it came to fitting the caliper to the bracket I had to angle grind neally 10mm out of the hub carrier/assembly thing to allow the top bolt of the caliper to fit and clear the hub assembly (and still move/float freely, as the caliper should do)

Has anyone brought/fitted this kit before and had to do anything like this?

And what are peoples views on EBC green stuff pads?

By the way the kit fits behind standard 15" 1.9 rims fine, and is so far so good - after around 10 hours of fitting/modifiing/customing the kit!

Miles

They should fit for that money, there's no excuse these days for parts not to fit.

But the pads are OK for road use, other than that you need to change them

What do you mean by 'other than that you need to change them' ?

I think Miles is refering to Track day's and other events where you will use the brakes alot, the pad's will over-heat

I guess if you want to go on track days, hill climbs etc. where the brakes will be used a lot harder, the pads won't be up to the job

edit: Beaten to it!

EBC green's personally I'd put them straight in the bin, there's mixed views so I don't kow if its a strict running in process or really bad QC and one batch is totally different to the next, but any car I've driven with "greens" in I ofund what I'd best say as dangerous. I'd get some ferrodo premiers from halfrauds myself, very good road pad, and can stand a 15min session at a combe action day fine.
