Clutch And Gearbox Help

Recommended Posts

chrisj21

Hi all.

Just in the middle of changing my clutch, when i removed the gearbox there was some sort of metal clip just hanging on the fork arms near the release bearing, very mangled.after scratching my head i managed to reshape it to a circular spring clip. what does it do and where is it supposed to go? it wasn't doing anything before hanging on the fork so can i leave it out? if not where can i get one or does somebody have one? pics would be good.

Any tips on getting the gearbox back on. having trouble getting the spline into the clutch plate.

And last of all. the bearing on the drivers side drive shaft that sits in the lower engine mount. is that replaceable separately or do i need a new shaft.

Thanks in advance.

Chris

Can't help with the odd clip but getting the gearbox spline lined up with the clutch, its handy if you have someone with a spanner on the crank to turn it slightly while you try to fit the gearbox if it doesn't slide straight on or its just a matter of turning the input shaft a minute amount & trying it again.

You can get the bearing seperately but afaik its only available from peugeot. (part number; 3247 03 BEARING 30X55-13 )

Graham.

If you changed the clutch did you use an aligning tool to get it square, if not it could be why the gearbox is not fitting.

you can get the bearing from any bearing supplier, though they are only £15 from Peugeot as it is IIRC.

one thing to bear in mind with replacing the bearing is the condition of the rest of the shaft, if the bearing is worn the chances are the joints will have some slop in them, in which case it often makes more sense to fit an exchange shaft.

Ok Thanks Graham thats a good tip.

Yes used a lining tool. Just a pain to try and get it to slide in.
