Fastest, Easiest, Cheapest And Most Effective Way To Refurbish The Sid

Recommended Posts

mercury

Hello Guys,

just got back from refurbishing the plastic surrounding trim around the 205 gti's body. I was going to take them off and respray in black but i accidentally got some fish oil on one part of the side trims. I washed her and the color stayed the same, turns out fish oil is water proof. So i spray some more one side to test it out. A week later still spotless! I couldnt believe it. It was like new. Anyways i did all the trims today and i must say it looks perfect. I even did my fading side mirrors and they work like a treat! - now both side mirrors are the same color (one side was badly fading) I will take some before and after pics if anyone is interested inlcuding the brand of fish oil spray i used (from memory only cost me $3.00AUD).

Hope this will help a few people to spruce up their gti.

Cheers,

Merc

Aren't all oils waterproof - and that's what makes them oils?

And when you say 'automotive fish oil', I gather that's fish oil dedicated for automotive use rather than the other possibility?

Yeah, it's used for rustproofing. It still smells but not too badly!

Don't bother with oil, you this http://www.elitecarcare.co.uk/product_info...products_id=213

It lasts for years and a couple of coats later my trim looks better than new!

Hi Banjo, that is of course the ultimate but if you want a cheap, quick and easy fix then fish oil is definately an option for the tightly budget minded enthusiast imo. Works great too.

nope not at all. Feels just like normal plastic. It gives it a nice protective coating.

When they get really faded careful use with an industrial heat gun works amazingly.... (you have to be careful or the trim can warp) basically takes the plastic back to original colour and will last for the next.... well however long it took them to get that faded in the first place!!!

Sorry took so long to reply, if your bumpers are ment to be grey this stuff will blacken them, a good thing in my opinion, and it costs £10...how is that expensive considering it last years and doesn't leave horrible residue/smell that attracts dust/tramps :)

Were your bumpers orginally grey (ph1.5) and then you used this stuff?? or were they black already? i'm thinking about doing my trim black and interested if anyone has used this stuff purely for this purpose and what the outcome was.

Always used Auto Glym green stuff previously. Would you say the Forever black was a better product? May need some on my next 205.

Did you use the water-based one?

Autoglym bumper care is a good product (for bumpers that is...)
