wardy18 33 1 Cars Posted August 10, 2008 whilst fidling around with the right hand drive shaft this bolt dropped onto my arm from inside the engine bay and i have no ides where it came from................ its total length is 6cm thread length 2.3cm hex head looks about a spanner size 15 or 16 hex head has gone the usual old rusty lumps and isnt anything which i have bolted in when building and fitted the engine as i cleaned every bolt on a wire wheel before using to get rid of any old rust deposits it has a rather strange "bullet" style like tip to it as you can see from the photo any ideas where it came from, ive had a quick look and feel but cant find anything?!?! any ideas would be great before i start pulling the undertray off to investigate

Anthony 1,003 Posted August 10, 2008 One of the subframe bolts possibly? From memory they're a 16mm head and about the same length/style you describe.
j_turnell 137 3 Cars Posted August 10, 2008 Look like subframe bolts to me.

Baz 421 Posted August 10, 2008 The 2 at the back on each side, that go into the car's body (captives under you feet in footwell!) But judging from where it dropped out, the front mount above the wishbone.
wardy18 33 1 Cars Posted August 10, 2008 ok nice one ill check tomorrow, might go and do a whole spanner check too!!
wardy18 33 1 Cars Posted August 11, 2008 sure enough this bolt was to the front subframe mount above the wishbone quite concerning because if i had never snapped a driveshaft causing me not to do my final run this may have dropped out never to be seen again while on the last run and i would have never noticed until somethin else went as a result!! thanx for the help all, saved me hours of searching, very grateful
