Help,my Gear Stick Is Trying To Escape!

Recommended Posts

changingman

Hi, i have a technical issue!!

My gear stick shakes so much that its annoying me,under full load the brake pedal even shakes because of it.

Now i have recently fitted a new driveshaft to the passenger side, would this unbalance anything if i didnt replace the drivers side one at the same time??

Do gearbox mounts or anything wear out and make the actual box move which would cause the stick to rattle,i dont know??

Oh by the way im running an MI16 just under 200 bhp if that makes any difference to the question!!

Thanks in advance.

Liam.

check your bottom engine mount, that's the usual reason for such behaviour.

Mine was doing that until I changed the top engine mount. When I removed the old one it was in 3 pieces!

Usual cause of this in my experience is a knackered INNER cv joint. Did it do it before you changed the shaft, or has it started since? If it did it before, then try changing the other shaft. If it started since you changed shafts then chances are your newly fitted shaft is no good.

Come to think of it,the morning the driveshaft burnt out i said to my mate the gearstick didnt feel right and that was before we changed it , maybe it is the drivers side on its way too!!

Ill get cracking during the week.

Thanks gents.
