vern 0 Posted August 8, 2008 I am rebuilding my engine and have put the new bearings and the crank in , with oil on, and I was under the impression that the crank should turn reasonably freely. Mine turns when just on the bottom bearings, soon as i put the top bearings on and nipped up, It does not move even when using a fair bit of force. Any advice
taylorspug 7 Posted August 8, 2008 Wrong size bearings, crank caps on in wrong order or wrong way round. The crank should spin easily by hand once torqued down and with no rods attached to it.
vern 0 Posted August 8, 2008 Thanks for prompt reply I thought it should spin by hand, I think the caps are in the right order, will have a check now, definatly the right way round as the lugs are facing the right way.
vern 0 Posted August 8, 2008 Got the vernier calipers out and the crank reads 60.0 and the bearings when together measure 59.7, so looks like I have the wrong bearings.
Rom 0 Posted August 8, 2008 I was supplied the wrong bearings by the company who done my lightening and balancing...they had all the components, and still supplied wrong parts :x Didnt check, and crank was stiff as you discribe. Chuck the right bearings in and all will be fine
