Juddering When Letting On And Off At Low Speeds?

Recommended Posts

Fox

I don't know if this is just what 205's do, but when driving at low speeds, 20-30 say, it feels like the engine is rocking about when I lift on and off, which makes it hard to drive smoothly.

I've changed all the engine mounts, and it seemed to make absolutely no difference what so ever. I'm going to try and tighten up the top mount buffers to see if that improves things, could that be the cause?

I dont have much mechanical knowledge but I would also check the gearbox mounts....

top mount buffers wont make that much difference, usually bottom mount has the biggest factor on engine swing during acceleration/decelaration etc. Dotn rule out a worn clutch for judder if its only at low engine speeds. ALso ensure the engine and box are tightly bolted together including the rear bolt between block and box.

Does it pull to one side when you accelerate and the other when you let off the gas?

If so mine did this and it was the wishbone that was worn on the O/S. New one on and no longer does it.

I swapped the gearbox mounts too.

It judders mainly when slowing down, say in second, down to about 2k, then judders when you put the power back on

Check the gearbox is tightly bolted to the engine, its common for them to become loose.
