Most replacement rads are aluminium, usually exactly the same Nissens rads people sell on ebay for a mark-up.

The current GSF ones are poor to say the least and when fitting a Mi in makes it very slightly more space dependant

I bought one from GSF and it came un-painted and was a bit taller than the standard item. Lord knows who made it.

I painted it before fitting it just to preserve it for a little longer.

Buy a Valeo item and have done with it. If you want to run cooler then fit a lower rated fan switch.

I bought a rad from GSF a couple of months ago and was pleasantly surprised to find that is was a Nissens. Only cost ~£45 too IIRC.

If I wanted to run cooler I'd fit a 'cooler' thermostat, not fan switch.

Why would you want a copper rad?? I'm guissing ali would be lighter and disepate the heat better and for half the price??!!

I know the older cars traditionly had copper rad's but I dont think 205's were copper originally??

Copper dissipates heat better than aluminium (in theory silver is the best, but nobody is going to build a rad out of that!). Aluminium is good enough though, as the 205 doesn't run that hot and the rad is plenty big enough. It's a lighter and cheaper too.

Car manufacturer's have to design the cooling system to dissipate enough heat when 50/50 glycol/water mixture is used. Specific heat capacity of pure water is two times greater than specific heat capacity of 50/50 glycol/water mixture. That might be one reason why Peugeot chose more expensive copper rad for the GTI.

Aluminium rad is more than enough when using pure water, haven't tried it with glycol mixture as I'm driving my track car only in summer.
