Scotch brite B) that's if you intend to paint them after the cleaning ... scrub them with scotch brite's and wash up with soapy water , then scrub some more , then again wash up a few times ... rinse and dry , and apply bumper cleaner (antisilicone cleaner) prior to painting , and apply a few layers of bumper paint (some types of bumper paints/sprays are intended for spraying straight on the surface without primer coat in between , and some types need priming the surface prior to applying top coat ...) :)

Rgs ! B)

(what ever you do , do not use sanding paper !)

thanks for your reply, but i want to remove the paint without damaging/changing the original bumper look. then i'd use bumper restoring polish to bring it back to a shine.

any other suggestions? i thought nitromors but it'll eat into the plastic. what about some kind of solvent?

Could try with nitrocellulose thinner :D as long as you don't go mad with scrubbing it shouldn't eat/melt the plastic so easily ..

Rgs !

if its bad flakey paint it will be a nightmare, all i can suggest is feather the flakey bits out with 320,either scotch or 800 wet and dry the rest and then repaint the original matt black or grey,,,,,or you can try pressure washing them with a high powered machine and hope it blows the rest off, sometimes when we get flakey bumbers we try the pressure washer 1st and some times it works

its proving to be a nightmare guys! anything i use eats the plastic aswell as the paint!

i'll try the pressure washer thing.

i was thinking of using some decal remover stuff, and leaving it to soak for a few days? so it softens the paint up.

(sandpaper doesnt seem to work for me because of the small nobules on the original bumper finish!)

Personally I'd try some nitromors in a concealed place to see if it will fetch the paint off without buggering up the plastic. If it works OK then you can do the whole bumper like that.

i would try the pressure was 1st because chances are they havent been prepped right and no plastic primer was used and with no plastic primer on it will flake 100%,i dont think i would use a paint stripper on bumbers but if you do just do a very small corner 1st like tom said

Don't underestimate Nitromors! I splashed a tiny bit into my bath and within the few seconds it took me find something to wipe it off with, it had melted a tiny spot and caused a crater in the bath.

Brake fluid works a treat...

"Hotwheelscollectors.com cites that hobby modellers use brake fluid as a safe (if somewhat slow) paint stripper. It is less likely to harm skin and will not harm plastics"

I tried it and it worked fine, google it if you're not sure.
