osama 0 Posted August 2, 2008 Hi guys, just booked in for my cam belt to be changed...but i was wondering.. what does the cam belt change actually do? should i get them to re-do the timing or? Thanks! Osama
suth82 0 Posted August 2, 2008 A cam belt change is simply a replacement of the drive belt, you should notice no difference to your car afterwards as its just a precautionery measure to prevent the belt snapping at some point and wrecking your valves. If they do it correctly with locking pins your timing should not be affected. Paul
screwloose 6 Posted August 3, 2008 How much have they quoted for your cam belt change just out of interest? J.
jim205GTI 3 Posted August 3, 2008 Only done it on an mi in a 205. Not a bad job to do also worth getting the water pump changed at the same time. The only problem i had really was getting the belt cover on and off
Rom 0 Posted August 3, 2008 I done it on my 8v before i dropped the Mi in. Was a bit fiddly but nothing too serious. Ive only tweeked the belt on my Mi in situ. Was nice and easy putting it on while on the stand Its the dual tensioners that wind me up.
Alastairh 47 Posted August 3, 2008 I have chunky hands, which makes Mi ones a bit of a pain in the arse for me. 8v ones are a doddle.
