Bonnet Pins & Dzus

Recommended Posts

NeilGTi85

Hello All,

I picked up my auto bonnet last night to replace my dented\bent bonnet, I currently have std bonnet clips at the front.

Before I go ahead and cut some holes in my new bonnet I would like to know if anyone's used dzus fastners?

I'm not to keen on the std bonnet pins to be honest nor the locking flush type......A friend of mine told me about these and ive seen quite alot of motorsport people use them....anyone on here??

Had a search on google and fund this.....http://www.southco.com/product/default.aspx?hid=7345

So in thery all you would see is a allen key head...

Any other sugestions what I could use?

Cheers

Neil

Flush-fit Aero catches are probably more suited for a bonnet. Dzus's are gonna a be a bit too small to take the load.

I've fitted flush fit aero catches, the underneath type ones rather than the over the top ones. Pain to fit but do the trick and TuV allowed most importantly.

taken before I put the retaining bolts in but you get the idea

the other option is to get the "saucer" type things to make std bonnet catches sucken in to the bonnet, can be had on ebay fair cheap I think, only downside is they catch the rain :)

I'm being fussy as usual and I think the aero catches are far to big and ruin the look, would rather have std one's :)

On some of the Dzus fasterners the head of the bolt can be upto the size of a 10p.....surely that would take the strain?

Also as the pins are coming out of the slam pannel there would not be enough room to fit the "saucer" type and flush fit one's.

I wouldnt recommend using Dzus fasteners on a bonnet. I currently use them on my front bumper and calculating the required length was a pain in the arse, as they need to hold the bumper secure at the right pannel gap.

I would also not recommend attaching a bonnet to the slam panel, use the headlight surrounds as they are less likely to flex.

I think i'll be just using the std pin type then....the pins which are currently on there was done by a previous owner and to be honest it does not flex...not what i can see anyway :)

There are rally teams which use the DZUS clips and F1 also use them on panel's

I use the older type ones as I think they look better.

I dont have any pictures currently as my digital camera has broken.

However its a Maxi fibreglass front bumper so is alot lighter than an original plus it mounts in a different way.

I used 2 Dzus at each end which attach to the metal area by the front wings and 2 M8 Dome head bolts that attach equidistantly from the middle.

I bought my Dzus fasteners from here:

http://www.raceparts-direct.com/products/f....asp?group=Dzus

They offer an excellent service and dont rip you off with postage costs.

Regarding WRC use the Focus's front bumper is held on using Camloc fasteners and 2 M8's from what I can remember.
