SimonJ 2 Posted July 30, 2008 Hi, Had intermittent starting problems with my 1991 1.6 Gti, turns over great, just has failed to catch maybe 5 times in the last 4 months but has always fired up later that same day. Today it didn't though so after a few checks myself got the AA out. Found two broken electrodes in the dizzy cap and was sure that would sort it but no. He says the spark is weak (white/yellow when it should be blue) and reckons the (Ducellier) coil could be faulty. Before I go down this route, is it as likely to be the ignition amp in anyones experience? I tried a spare one I have but no success, then again I have no proof it works either, Thanks, Simon PS: anyone local to me (Comber) I could borrow either from to check? SimonJ 2 Posted July 30, 2008 Update: Tried new ign amp and coil and no difference. The only other thing the AA guy commented on was that though stacks of fuel was coming to the rail and a tester light glowed fine across an injector plug, the spark plugs weren't as wet as he would have expected? luggy 13 Posted July 30, 2008 Had a similar issue where the AA man diagnosed faulty coil, cleaned the coil king lead connection with some emery paper and it fired up straight away.
