Front Drop Links Catching The Back Of The Hubs

Recommended Posts

James_R

Had the front end apart on my run about Gti yesterday and noticed both the drop links catch on the back of the hubs just as you get close to full lock, they're std replacement items and the spacing is the same either side, ride heights the std aswell, the car looks straight underneath, anyone else had this with replacement droplinks (were 6months old when I bought the car) I'm going to add a few washer to move them inboard a bit to fix it.

I have found this with almost every pattern drop link I have used in the past, regardless of source (GSF, ECP or local motor factors) and with a variety of ride height and camber combinations, including standard.

The upper ball-joint flange seems to be in the wrong place, effecting the angle the drop-link sits at.

As you suggest, I've always packed them out with washers or a nut, but there may not be enough thread left to reach the nylon on the lock nut, which could be an issue come MOT time.

James.

Yup, i had this on ELN, really badly on one side - the hub-damper pinch bolt was round the wrong way so the excess thread was twatting the drop link, but even with that turned it still caught it slightly. I think i added a washer or 2 as you say! Can't remember!
