Camshaft End Bolt

Recommended Posts

I have been trying to fit an adapter this evening to my Mi for the dizzy and i need to take the flange off which is held on by a star nut which is gonna be rounded off i im not careful because it just doesn't wanna budge.

tried tightening up and loosening

Hitting with a hammer, but not too much because quite late at the moment and the wife doesn't like being woken up to me banging metal in the garage

Soaking in WD40

Given up for tonight now because it looks as though i could round it off soon so just wondered if anyones got advice tips or if anyones suffered the same thing?

probably not what you want to hear but why are you using an 8v dizzy adapter?

because the bizarre ECU I have either insists on using the original distributor as the pickup instead of a wasted spark system.

I can use a wasted spark system but Lumenition make me buy another ignition module unit to make it work costing about £110 so using this was the cheaper option. They don't do the adapter i need for the 16v dizzy so 8v it had to be.

Hope this makes sense

Good luck with getting this off mate, I had to drill the head off of mine in the end!! We tried all sorts to get it off including a DeWalt impact gun.

Impact driver is your best bet, but like Nic says not always friendly to get them out.

I'd hit it.

...with a hammer, at the end of the bolt.

I was a bit wary of hitting it too hard because of it being attached to the cam,

should this be a worry?

Leave the engine in neutral when your trying to do it otherwise the timing belt is taking the strain. In fact id have the timing belt cover off and try to lock the cam properly with a spanner on the other end of the cam.

Good luck with this, i took my cam to a machine shop with impact tools etc to get this off......

You want the Golf 16v Dizzy as the 205 one doesn;t have the right output needed, I do have the adaptor lead if you need one thou
