Eccentric Top Mount Problem

Recommended Posts

mickie

i just got these through the post from compbrake, i said over the phone which coilovers i had but i got back some bits that dont fit, i was just wondering what you guys thought about me drilling out the spring top cap and one of the washers, keeping the original nut for the top and not the one they gave me, with a smaller ID thread.

or should i send them back and try again ? nothing ever goes right

I needed different bits for Compbrake mounts with Leda coilovers so I phoned them up and spoke to someone who was literally stood in front of a lathe at the time and knew exactly what I would need so he turned some up and posted them for a few quid. If you told them which dampers you have before you bought them they should send you the correct parts free of charge IMO.

Just ring or email them, a few forum members have experienced very good service from them :)

See my thread, I was told that their bush should sit on no.3 in my photo, the lip to the left ie down the strut is just to stop the top hat sliding down. I did have my work mill down my top nut slightly to get a bit more thread on but your strut looks like it has far more thread than mine so not needed

cheers guys, yeah they are a good company, i got the bits the next day, just thought it may have been better to do a post as ringing them up would be confusing, which it was when i rang them after i made this post..

they said my tophat is universal as in, it can be drilled out to fit, needs to be 20mm.

also my bush is 1mm out from fitting over the threads 13mm, to get at as you say on yours, point #3

i'll try drilling out the tophat and one of the 2 bushes, using the original nut i got with the shocks..

the only worry is about fouling the bonnet, when its all together this way i'll end up being 40mm up from the strut top, i'd try it in if my car wasn't in bits on its side :)

but it all sounds a little dodgy that way of doing it, it may be better to have it go together the way you have it visa and in that case has anyone got an idea of the thread type on my coilovers ? groupbuy gaz ones

Mine are group buy Gaz ones and I ticked the box for longer thread section suitable for these top mounts but mine are miles shorter than yours at the top! hmm, hence I had my top nut turned down so it gets about 10mm of thread on it instead of 4
