Power Steering In S16

Recommended Posts

Para

Hi there

I have 1.6 GTI from 1991 fitted with S16 engine from 1994. I have NO power steering and I wonder what parts do I need to make a conversion.

I was looking on the forum but there is nothing precise. I will appreciate if somebody will make a list of things so I can start collection.

Thanks

Mike

205 Power steering rack and lower UJ to column

s16 non-AC engine bracket, alt/pas pump bracket pas pump and alt, pipe form pump to rack.

either Non-AC Alt, PAS pump, brakcet and pipe to steering rack from the later 2L 306's XSi's etc..

Resovoir from the 205 set up. then pipe work to link it all, the remainder is low pressure so push and circlip fits.

The s16 PAs pump has a bigger wheel on it, so in theory works better at low rev's and the later set ups use a smaller pas pump pulley, can't say I've noticed much difference in steering weight between the two types on 306s.

You need all S16/XSi parts for this, the only 205 part is the rack and U/J

Someone here once said that you could use a power steering rack from 306?

Has anyone tried? Does it need much modification? and what's the ration of a 306 rack?
