dcc 855 Posted July 22, 2008 the engine is known to be good. 80odd k on the clocks running 8v managment, dizzy adapter and the 8v afm. with the battery charged, the engine keeps turning over and over, but wont spark. whats peoples thoughts? we have had a play with the dizzy but the most we can get is the very slightest of a backfire, it is almost as if it is tryign to spark on the wrong stroke. (assuming its 4stroke?) when looking at th eengine, the lefthand piston is at tdc, but the rotor arm has just come to pass the point of contact in the dizzy cap. really quite annoying. If anybody fancies giving me some help, im based in southwales, close to bridgend (cardiff is about 25 min drive away) COOKIES AND BEERS are all i can offer, as if cookies aint enough! but seriously, i would be most appreciative of any help given. Cheers, Dan.
Mikey G 3 Posted July 22, 2008 Have you set the plug leads up for the compression stroke? you could be 180 degrees out. Take all the plugs out and replace one of them into number 1 cylinder (flywheel/dizzy end). Turn the engine over by hand until you feel pressure building. Then remove the plug and continue to turn the engine (by hand) until the piston is at TDC. Then check the location of the rotor arm to that cylinder, it should have just slightly passed an electrode, this is due to the engine requiring the plug to fire before TDC. Then as you look at the dizzy from the passenger side (flywheel/dizzy end etc..) and fit the leads in the sequence of 1-3-4-2 (again number 1 is flywheel end) in an anticlockwise rotation.
