Safety- Cage, Seat Mount And Harness Points

Recommended Posts

jtek

I may well set myself the task of dealing with the interior and safety of my 205 and get that out of the way before starting any engine and suspension stuff; I want to make a fairly decent job of it so my current queries are...

Cages- 6 or 10 point bolt-in should be fine for what the car is being used for, anybody recommend good value options and where to get these from?

Floor Bars- Currently using bottom mounted seats, anybody got any example pictures of what they have done? and specs on good plate thickness and box section/tube to use?

Harness Eyelets- Still not decided on 4 or 5 point harnesses, obviously I don't want to go submarining but is this a very serious issue? Any particular areas of strength that people favour to weld in eyelets for the harnesses?

The car is being built with the possibility of doing hillclimbs/sprints/autosolos/trackdays, although i haven't even looked at any MSA rules and regs just yet, if any of the stuff I have mentioned is massively dictated by these rules then I would be grateful to know.

Many Thanks

Cages, up to personal opinion tbh, have a look at a few that are already fitted before you decide. I personally don't think much of OMP ones. Depending on what Sprint/HC classes you're aiming the car at then be careful of cage choice also, as picking up on suspension mounts etc make it different!

Floor bars, very wise, just some bars butted up against the ex. tunnel and inner sill will be loads better over the std weak ones. A few people have had them done on here, a pic of some Miles had done below. :)

If you mount the seats correctly and also i guess depending on the angle you like to sit, submaring doesn't really happen that often, but in the case of an accident i guess anything can!

Harness eyelets, use the std mounts where possible, but you'll need one for the lower centres on the exhaust tunnel or similar, and ideally some cage harness bars are a good place for the rears.

Cool, Those ones on Miles' car looks well done, that gives me some food for thought, cheers Baz!

One more query, with side mounted seats, does anyone have a measure of the distance between the mounting holes width-wise, or do these vary greatly? Just thinking about if i change to side mounted seats in future!
