How Important Are The Shields

My question is how important are the brake shields on my 1.9 205 on the read, as both of mine have sheered bolts , and there fore rattle badly, .

One of the first things I remove from every car I've had & never had any trouble from it.

only really there to stop things flicking up on the side of the disk

mine are coming off, seeing as I dented them a bit when unbolting the rear beam :S hehe

Binned them.

 

One car I had, they had rottern through and fell off when driving. Man that made a racket...

well , ive been turning down the stereo and listening carefully now for about 3 months, hearing a rattle but not knowing what it was, then the other day whilst under the car i noticed they were both so loose.
