Mi16 Running Problems

Recommended Posts

Ethos

Hi guys,

So had the cambelt retensioned a bit yesterday (was too tight) meaning I can take the 205 out for a good blast!

....but there is one problem. It's a bit rough at lower revs (jerky) and once a bit warmer it'll do this thing where it seems to cut all power (revs completely drop) and then back on again. This can happen at fully throttle / part throttle.

Any ideas?

Chris came around earlier and we checked a couple of things, def not the ignition amplifier.

We then tried the coil;

Chris's (good known working) on mine; seems alot smoother and didn't experience the crazy cut out (maybe once, but I think that could of been my dodgy driving!).

Mine on Chris's; His revs were staying at 3k even with the clutch in at the start, so not the same symptoms as mine but not "quite right". Although after a mile or so it seemed fine.

Any suggestions? It's pretty fierce when it happens, really pushing you forward in your chair. Chris said he might have a spare coil so fingers crossed that might solve it.

Thanks :lol:

I'd like to add that the engine doesn't die... the only noticeable effects are the revs dropping and a full on jerk :lol:

Ignition amplifier would be my bet.

My old corsa did this, took about 5 minutes to sovle with a new AFM. (was giving ecu crap readings every so often)

Hmmm, well I won't cancel it out then. Mines only "sat" there at the moment, maybe I should cable tie it in place!

Chris is bringing over a spare coil tonight hopefully, so fingers crossed.

Ok, well had another little look at this tonight (just to see if there was anything else I could see).

Notes;

Main fuel line in was a little kinked from my limited view, so I loosened and twisted this a bit so the pipes are running nice smooth lines now. Even tho the main line in looks fairly close the manifold!!

Cable tied the AFM to the chassis to stop it moving about at all.

Main cable that goes from the battery to the junction box seemed a little loose so I tightened that up too.

:)

Well just took it out and touch wood everything was fine....

What sort of cost will a garage charge to set the afm mixture up properly?
