Cutting Wheel Arches

Recommended Posts

jonnygoodhand

Some point over the next few days, I plan on trimming the rear wheel arches of my Rallye, in order to fit some larger (6.75j) wheels.

I did think about having them 'rolled', but it would seem the inner arch would prevent this from being successful.

Does anyone have experience of doing this and would be willing to offer some advice?

Cheers,

John

I'm pretty sure you are going to have a fair bit of chopping to do.

On mine is was done by cutting out the metal but leaving it slightly lower on the outside skin, then cut up into this a bit to make flaps and bend them under to make the arch. This was then covered in loads of sealant.

Sam did it but the pictures from his site has gone, I'm not sure if he will have copys of it though.

i actually cut away the unner skin really high, and still need to weld it up, but believe it or not over the course of a few months its been fine, i will dry it and treat any bad metal before i weld it up though, although be warned , i distorted some of the arch due to heat from grinder.

Thanks for all the tips!

I was going to wait until a mate of mine could have a go at it, using his grinder. But I unearthed some antique hand cutters from the shed! After a couple of hours and a few blisters later:

I then cut the the inner arch slightly higher and used the 'tab' method Jrod suggests.

So far, so good...
