Water Leak From Rear Window

Recommended Posts

Guest Cap

Hello,

I recently purchased a 205 (which I love) but have noticed the boot has been letting water in.

I've found its getting in from between the rear window glass and the boot itself.

Having never attempted to remove glass from the car before i was just wondering if anyone has experienced this problem and has a solution as its becoming tiresome mopping out the back of my car after it rains :)

I've searched the forums and can not find an answer to this, any help would be great :)

thanks

Andy

Common problem tbh. Some people have taken out the rear windows, then cleaned up the aperture and rubbers themselves and stretched them gently as they shrink with age. Treat the rubber with a silicone spray or trim wax etc, polish the aperture and re-fit. Some people have cured it like this.

Boot could be the seal, or the heol in the tailgate for the rear panel. Another common leakage place is the holes for the rear quarter badges.

Done all of that had the rear panel off and filled in the holes. How hard is it to remove the window?

thanks for your help :)

the window is bonded in, the rubber you can see is just a trim to fill the gap.

My last two 205's leaked through the rear window, the only cure was to claim on my insurance for a new rear window, i told the insurance the window was cracked and when the window man came round to replace it i explained that it wasnt cracked but leaked through the seal and that the rear heated element didnt work properly. He was more than happy to change the window.

Cheap cure for £60 and no difference to your no-claims.

IMO the best and only cure.

Just my opinion.

Tony.

Mine is the opposite, it leaks after having a new rear window fitted :) So time to get it ripped out and refitted.

Josh, how long ago was that and who did it? If it was done by one of the big companies it will be guaranteed against leaking. Get them to come and redo it for free.

Yeah, it was fitted by Autoglass or one of the big firms, but a couple of years ago now, so outside the guarantee period :)

My rear window was replaced by RAC auto windscreens.

The warranty given by them is 3 years, so check your paperwork as you may be covered still!
