dcc 855 Posted July 17, 2008 now i have performed a search and have spent a good 3-4 hours searching on the net as well as readin up in the haynes manual. does anybody here have a guide or step/by/step for removal of and replacement of said bearings? i have a new sump on the way, so with the bottome being on show, ive been informed i might as well check the bearings and even change them there and then if they aint too healthy. welshpug 1,657 Posted July 17, 2008 quite easy actually, turn the crank till the chosen con rod is at its lowest point, then loosen the 2 nuts on the cap and pull it off (note which way round it goes, they are numbered and Marked IIRC), remove the bearing from the cap. push the piston up the bore enough to remove the top half of the bearing taking care not to mark the journal of the crank. clean seating surfaces and fit new bearings not forgetting to place the tabs in their notches, lightly oil the inner surface of the bearing, pull conrod back down to meet the crankshaft and replace the cap, torque nuts up to torque specified in the Haynes manual Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
jas-E 1 Posted July 17, 2008 Thats more or less spot on. Make sure the surface of the bearing that will be on the crank journal is lubricated properly, and the surface that will be on the bearing cap is clean and without any oil on it. Best to clean them up with WD40, fit them onto the caps then lubricate and fit onto the journals. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
