To Sum Up Other Long Winded Threads...

Recommended Posts

4evernewbie

Having read through other threads (the sticky and the "307, how much better?") and getting utterly confused, can anyone sum up the outcomings?

Basically, having never driven my 205Mi yet, I've decided to uprate the brakes, due to all the solid lines needing replacement.

So, I'm gona whack my Wilwood midlites (4pots) on. They've got rally spec pads (I dunno what this means, Burton Power said I would be better with the rally pads as apposed to the standard ones due to the power I was running in my Fiesta) and braided lines. I've got a set of brembo blank 283mm discs from a gti6 which I'm machining the calliper mounting bracket to make them fit.

So, what else should I do to uprate the brakes?

What's the deal with the compensators (I think that's what they're called)? Will I need to remove/uprate/change to gti6 etc??

And how's about the mc? Should I uprate to 406 v6 (or any other which came with 4pots)

Should I change rears? Discs are in good shape, pads have a fair bit of bite left in them, so don't want to replace them just yet despite not knowing what pads they are.

I mainly want to eliminate brake fade due to me enjoying spirited driving up, over and down the welsh hills which has a tendancy to realy cook brakes.

I do understand that braking is dependant on tyre grip, but that's not the problem here, it's brake fade.

Oh, and what's the best fluid to use (boiling temp. wise)?

And (last thing) is it worth removing driving lamps and installing cooling ducts? I'm not too sure as I won't be stopping from 100+ and I've heard with the bigger than standard discs, heat dissipation is improved.

Another long winded thread from me; sorry about that.

Oh, and I have read through both afformentioned threads several times and was still left with these questions but felt it wrong to hijack.

Many thanks in advance,

Paul.

Come on guys, can nobody think of ANYTHING to upgrade on the whole braking system??

Money aside, anything can be done here!!

I just lack the knowledge on what to do :)

i'd fit a 23.8 mm m/c and a vias valve (instead of standard compensators) :).

Sweet. Thanks. Don't suppose you know what cars came with a 23.8mm m/c???

And a quick Q re: brake bias Vvs. If they're going to used to control front/rear braking ratio, how do they do this with a single inlet and single outlet? ie, how are they plumbed in?

a quick search would have answered those :).

406 m/c's stamped 23 (4-port) and a pre-1998 306 GTI6 / Xsara VTS also stamped 23 (2-port).

bias valves only control the rear brakes, but esentially you're changing the front/rear ratio.

rear lines are T'd and then go into the bias valve and then split again after it going to the rear wheels.

ofcourse, you have the re-arrange the brake lines at the m/c too, to front+front and rear+rear configuration.
