Larger Injectors 2.0 Turbo

Just been looking through the for sale section and I noticed that Dreamweaver still has the Saab injectors for sale and it just got me thinking.

 

A lot of people have said that the 2.0 turbo can't fuel for over 190bhp ish, mine is running a bar currently and it does noticably tail off after 4.5k rpm ish. I know this is a combination of small turbo and injectors, but I do think that to a degree that the turbo could be made to boost longer with a stiffer actuator.

 

My question is really how effect would putting the larger injectors onto the engine "but" without modifying anything else. I know it will fuel too rich in the mid-range but given that my car is off the road and I intend to trailer it about its not really a daily driver. Will this sort out the top end assuming I can stretch the standard turbo a bit more.

 

But more importantly will it run a like a bag of nails in the mid-range cos I obviously know that overfueling isnt a good thing with bore wash etc etc....but on a turbo engine that isn't used on the road much how much effect will it really have??

Mine are still standard with 208bhp and 245lb ft of torque, With .5 bar boost, This I have checked other car's on the same roller's and if anything they underread slightly compared with most. Mind it's nearly all over by 5500rpm

Just wanted to say, its not the actuator that determines the max boost a turbo can achieve. The actuator controls the pressure throughout the rev range, but as the engine swallows more air and the revs increase the turbo can only flow a maximum amount of air. This results in the wastegate closing gradualy as the revs increase on the engine to maintain a desired boost level, once the wastegate is closed the turbo is running its maximum so if there is still more rpm's left in the engine boost will drop off. So a stiffer actuator will only increase boost pressure lower down the rev range.

 

We managed to get 231bhp from standard injectors but i suspect that to be a slightly optimistic dyno run.

The reason the power tails off after 4500rpm is mainly due to a combination off asthmatic turbo and a really lazy cam,If you want to see a big change in power delivery for very little money get a DKZ or 2.0ltr cam in there you'll be pleasantly suprised !,Just changing that awfull exhaust manifold for one of the TT ones makes a BIG difference,ok you have to change the turbo to but I just found a knackered 200sx one off E-bay and then robbed the exhaust housing off it and put the "Guts" of the peugeot turbo into that,manufactured an exhaust elbow (parts avail on various sites on the net) and away you go !.

Yeah I am interested in possibly changing the cam, but do you not need to have it remapped?

 

Are the DKZ cams notoriously dificlut to find or are there alternatives that are more widespread?

DKZ cams are hard to find but the std 2.0ltr 8V Cam (Cant remember the engine code) is plentifull,you dont need a remap it will run happily without but obviously if you did get it mapped afterwards then I assume that gains would be greater,personally I would sling the std management and go for Emerald or something like that,Miles used Omex with good results I believe (Sure he'll correct me if Im wrong on that how ever).

As I already mentioned changing to the TT manifold and a different turbo gives good results as well and you dont have to be a rocket scientist to fit it either,coupled with stand alone management Saab Redtops different cam and a good intercooler will bring huge gains !,just make sure you fit a quaife and sort the gearbox out first :)
