dcc 855 Posted July 13, 2008 Do i need to replace anything other than the clutch cable and pedal? i dont have either of these yet, but while sitting on my drive, trying to select gears, i couldnt get it to select 1st or reverse ( towards the driver and down, below 5th) as my old gearbox was towards the passenger and up, next to first. do i need to change anything or should i wait and see if it is different with the clutch working cheers, Dan. jackherer 543 Posted July 13, 2008 Are you sure its BE3? Mi16 BE1 boxes use the 205 BE3 clutch release mechanism so they all look like BE3s. It should have either BE1 or BE3 stamped on the top of the gearbox. If its definitely BE3 you may have dropped the selector when changing the external selector arm, although I thought it was fifth and reverse that became locked out when that happened. dcc 855 Posted July 13, 2008 (edited) ive just been out to double check. it likes 1/3/4/5 but not 2nd and rev. >.< ---- I also checked for the markings for bex on the gearbox. couldnt find anything with the marking on. its a rather clean box too. just a tad unsure now. whats the difference between the be1 and be3 mi16 gearbox's? anything telltale? jackherer 543 Posted July 13, 2008 When you fit an Mi16 box to a 205 one of the selector arms is wrong and needs to be swapped for a 205 one and during this operation its common for the selector to be dropped which locks out fifth and reverse. As you don't seem to know what I meant I assume this box has been in another 205 previously perhaps? Anyway, none of that is relevant if you can't select 2nd, it might be worth putting it in gear and rocking it back and forward to see if that helps. If it still wont go into 2nd take the rods off and try to select 2nd manually using the arms on the gearbox itself. Its probably not worth worrying about reverse or if its a BE1 or a BE3 until you manage to get it into 2nd.

Miles 331 1 Cars Posted July 13, 2008 Did the arm drop down as unless you support it this does quite often fall out of the tiny grove the main selector inside of the box and hense not selecting gears The BE1 or BE3 part is stamped on the top of the box and the other quick way to tell if the arm out the back of the box is just bent upwards is a BE3 or if there's a selector like the top one fitted then it's a BE1
dcc 855 Posted July 13, 2008 the arm was bent up as it was replaced with the one from my 205, which was be1. that clears that up. the gearbox was fitted when we did the work on the arm swap. i didnt see the thing drop down at all as we supported it with a small screwdriver while the new one was carefully placed ontop. ill take a photo tomorrow to show what the box looks liek with the new arm fitted. there was a black thing that we supported, circle, about 1inch (ish maybe smaller/bigger) which the new selector dropped on top and was gently eased over. we then tapped the pin back into place to hold the selector. (we havent bothered inserting the 2ndsmaller pin inside the first, as the first was in, and VERY tight) Dan.
