Fuel Pump Constantly Running

Recommended Posts

EnglishRob

Hi folks,

I'm looking to get another 205 after being made redundant and having to give my company car back.

My mate Stu (who's on these forums, can't remember his username, it has been so long since I posted properly), has offered me his 1.9 205GTI in red (it's an F reg). Cosmetically it's not brilliant and could probably do with a respray longer term.

It seems to run okay apart from an oil leak coming from somewhere (I've e-mailed him links to a couple of posts on here which might be able to help him find where it's coming from). There is one issue though which for me is a biggie. The fuel pump runs constantly unless you take the fuse out (even with the ignition off). Not sure if it would make any difference but there is also a Clifford Alarm (not sure which one, I think it's probably a good 10 to 15 years old) fitted, although with the fuse in and the alarm set it won't start (it turns over but won't actually start properly).

So basically I wondered from what I've described if anyone could advise if it could be a relay or something more serious at all?

Ta,

Rob

Probably just the tachymetric (fuel pump) relay is jammed on - a sharp tap might be enough to fix it, or a replacement relay.

Great thanks for the quick reply.

I'll get him to have a look before I make my final decision about the car. I am tempted to go for it, I had a look on eBay and although there's some nice ones on there, they're pretty much out of my price range or need too much work. I'm kicking myself that I didn't keep my white one and just leave it in the garage. :-(
