iamjackiechan 0 Posted July 12, 2008 hi i have a few questions, they might sound abit stupid so sorry. wat are the benefits of a staright cut gear box, can i get my mi16 gear box rebuilt and staright cut, and were can i send my box to get this work done. thanks
large 33 Posted July 12, 2008 Strength. thats about it and the sound. yes you can have it built up as a staright cut sorry i dont know the nane of a company i would have thought any 205 rally sort of place would do this sort of work.
philfingers 5 Posted July 12, 2008 std box is pretty strong, unless you're running massive power. s/c cluster would be £1500 plus I would have thought. a lot of money for 'the sound'!
Miles 331 1 Cars Posted July 12, 2008 Most are semi Helical, I;ve got a BTCC Dog box here which is Helical as well but that box is worth allot and after seeing it I would not go down that route as allot of other work is needed, You can get better gear kit's thou and with Shot peaning and coating which again isn't cheap then the std boxes last well upto 200bhp then after that the lifespan is a fair bit shorter
Hilgie 16 2 Cars Posted July 16, 2008 I'd get a different gearbox altogether....ML or ME type.
Mandic 0 Posted July 16, 2008 +1 World doesn't end with BE boxes, there are other boxes to choose between. I'm sure ME can handle quite a lot of beating, and even if You manage to kill it You can easily source out new one and they are cheap too. For money/strength ratio they can't be beaten. iamjackiechan 0 Posted July 16, 2008 hi what engine/car does an ME box come out of. does it go straight on the mi16. it sounds good. cheers
guffe 2 Posted July 17, 2008 (edited) Sorry for little offtopic, but has someone managed to fit a ME box to 205? Pictures plz? I was told (by the authorized Peugeot agent) that it will never fit. Edited July 17, 2008 by guffe
Guest RonnyJ Posted July 17, 2008 Hilgie is the expert on fitting ME/ML gearboxes in way to small cars:) We are fitting a ML gearbox on our 205 soon and the mods Hilgie said that have to be done are : - good part of the subframe to be taken out. - mountingpoints of the wishbones need to be modified (lowered). - subframe 'legs' where it is fitted to the front of the car need to be modified.
