2.0 Hdi Crank In Gti6/xu10j4rs

I'm pretty sure Magic has looked into this with the aim of using one in a BIG power T16 engine build, though I don't know how far he got into the project.

IIRC its steel and fully counterweighted.

reading the aussie frogs thread he decided against the hdi crank as the gti6 has 8 counterweights to the hdi 4.

Yeah, though the DW crank is steel and copes with 1.3 Bar of boost and a fairly high compression fine, but it does so at relatively low RPM compared to a T16.

Still it looks like the EW crank is cast, which is also the case for the XU10J4RS crank, well actually almost all XU cranks, apart from 2.1 TD and 405 T16 one.

 

The forged ones again only have 4 counterweights, but I don't see that as a problem.

 

1.3 bar of boost is nothing though, quite a few people have been running 2 bar boost on the standard cast Mi16 crankshafts without problems.

All cranks are steel.

 

I'd be surprised to find any large scale car manufacturer fitting a steel crank to a production engine. The production cost of just this one part would be astronomical compared to using a cast item.

AFAIK EW is cast and DW is forged.

 

And like Kristian says, all XU cranks except 2.1 TD and T16 are cast.

As pointed out by Mandic, all cranks are steel but its the manufacturing process that differs, cast or forged.

 

I was thinking of billet steel cranks when I mentioned major expense.
