yeti-dj 7 Posted July 9, 2008 Hello, getting a bit worried about my oil pressure on my MI16 .On start up it sits over 6 on the guage but when hot it drops off til it sits the wrong side of 2. When the car is being driven it sits nearly at 6 if your over 3000rpm but when below this it sits at about 3. The car isnt using any oil and there is no smoke from the exhaust at all, you recon it might be time for a new oil pump? If fitting a new pump any recommendations or justs stick to a standard MI16 pump? Or am i getting worried about nothing? cheers....
welshpug 1,657 Posted July 9, 2008 sounds perfectly normal IMO, the gauges arent ever 100% accurate but a good indication of what the engine is up to. Oil pumps on the whole never give problems, any pressure issues are likely to be general wear in the engine or bad choice of Lubricant.
yeti-dj 7 Posted July 10, 2008 The other thought i had is i dont have the oil cooler fitted and the oil temp guage is reading about 95-100 degrees once the car has had a good run, could possible try fitting the cooler and help the oil out a bit by staying cooler.. The oil i am using is Mobil S and the proper weights, 10w 40 i think of the top of my head.. Might also try a different sender and see if thats the problem.. jackherer 543 Posted July 10, 2008 That sounds normal to me. But if you are worried about oil pressure you have to fit an aftermarket gauge, its the only way to know for sure.
