8v Oil Pressure

Recommended Posts

Just wondering what is the norm for oil pressure when the engine is fully warmed through. I took the pug on a little blast the other day in the good weather and on returning before slapping her back in her bedroom :D ( garage ) I spotted oil pressure on a quarter and oil temp about the same. ie just one section off cold.ticks over great when there's a bit of warmth in the oil but can hunt a bit if engine is up to temp but oil temp is'nt. just wanted to know other fellas views. I know how unreliable these gauges can be and if they just cant be relied on what are the tell tale signs of low oil press, pug doesn't smoke either.

cheers lads n lasses

So long as the low pressure light isn't on at idle and it's halfway or higher at 4000rpm, I'd not worry too much.

Most 8v's that I've had have shown approx 1-2 bar at idle, and 4-5 bar at 4000rpm with hot oil. The marks on the gauge approximately show: (left) low oil pressure light) 1, 2, 4, 6, and 8 bar (right)

The gauges aren't particuarly wonderful in terms of absolute accuracy, but they're fine as a reference IMO.
