I think thats the way.

this is off another forum but I expect its basically the same?

Note. To carry out a proper test you will need to take three or four pressure readings for each cylinder. Working on a warm engine with a fully charged battery, disable the fuel system, isolate the ignition circuit and remove the spark plugs. Screw the compression tester into the No1 cylinder spark plug hole, spin the engine on full throttle, note and record the pressures. Repeat the test on the remaining cylinders, noting and recording the pressures. Examine the results, wet test if required. Re-fit the spark plugs; connect the HT & LT leads, re-fit fuel pump fuse.

from this site found by browsing

and this site is the same! same thing different site

So if you take out the plugs, does that constitute disabling of the ignition circuit?

Just unplug the coil and injectors to cut off the ignition/fuel supply

So if you take out the plugs, does that constitute disabling of the ignition circuit?

Don't think so, the HT leads will still be sparking away and the injectors will still be fueling
