JimLad 1 Posted July 7, 2008 Am I right in thinking there's an early and a late system? Early system pre August(ish!) 89 - 3 piece with sleeve type joints. Late system post Aug 89 - 2 piece with olive type joints. Slightly larger diameter. Reason I ask is I have a one piece downpipe and centre section but it doesn't have an olive type joint. The car did have a stupid aftermarket back box when I got it so I'm thinking maybe the olive was cut off to accommodate the old bacbox.... Can anyone help? Thanks
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted July 7, 2008 Moved into correct section. Yes, there are two different systems ont he 205 GTi, early three piece system with the sleeve type joint & later two piece wit the olive joint. Sounds to me like whoever fitted the backbox cut the olive joint off to make it fit. Graham.
jackherer 543 Posted July 7, 2008 If a standard early sleeve type backbox doesn't fit on you might be able to use part of the old aftermarket one as a sleeve to make it fit...?
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted July 7, 2008 The bore of the centre pipe on the later two piece system is slightly larger than the phase 1 system. Graham.
