Front Bumper Size

Recommended Posts

I've just bought the red strip for the front bumper for my GTi and it seems the bumper is too small. It's not an original part, I replaced a couple of years ago. I had a look at SWMBO's XL and that bumper seemed to be the right size for the red strip, which I think is the original part. I understand the GTi and non-GTi front bumpers are different, but is the difference just the holes at the ends for the GTi's wheel-arch trim? I was thinking of swapping the bumpers between the cars, so maybe needing to drill out the holes for the wheel-arch trims.

The XL's bumper has faded a lot, but I've used the Hycote vinyl paint successful on the rest of the trim to make it all black.

Apart from drilling out for the trim, to fit non-gti bumpers to a GTi you have to cut 20mm ish from each return end, to the slightly radiused, thicker part - so the GTi bumper would be too short for the XL
