driversdomainuk 8 Posted July 6, 2008 Hi Just fitted a mechanical oil pressure system and a warning light which comes on at 20 psi. When I start up, I am getting around 40psi which runs to over 100psi when revving hard (competition oil pump) However, I am running 8-10psi max at idle when warm and the warning light is on. I am also getting the warning light coming on when driving at say 35mph in 4th or some other very low engine rpm driving. The oil pressure is running around 38psi under normal driving conditions... I guess this oil pressure is not right.....do you think an engine strip down is required...?
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted July 7, 2008 With just 8-10 psi at idle when warm & 38psi under normal ruuning, its under the recommended minimum @ 3.5k listed in the Haynes manual (3.5bar = ~50 psi) the bottom end needs looking at. It might only need new big end & main bearings but better to look now before its to late & the crank needs a regrind. Graham.

Thanks - whatever it is, I am sure it is down to competition use and oil surges as when I had it, the oil pressure was not a problem
