Engine Bay Pic, Has My Intake Been Modified

Recommended Posts

Hi i started a thread a couple days ago asking which clutch i need for my gear box, which was very help full, later ,after i had bought myself a 1.6 gearbox, remembered that the previous owner of my car had converted it from 1.6 engine to 1.9 engine, but i was unsure weather to tell if it had a 1.6 box in or not as this is my first 205 i have owned or ever driven, so i decided to take it to a friend of mine who owns a 205 1.9 and has had a few 1.9s over the years and all been standard, i let him have a drive and he said that there is a noticeable difference in the cars acceleration, after looking under the bonnet he said to me that my intake was not standard and that could be what the difference is?

That is what looks very much like a K&N induction kit fitted, it has replaced the standard air filter box and trunking. The standard induction system is routed around the engine over the gearbox with the air box situated over the exhaust manifold. It will help the car to breath a touch better but gives more of a noticeable induction sound rather than lots of extra power, has probably added between 2 and 5 bhp at a guess. Its doubtful that this would give the noticeable difference in acceleration your freind in talking about, and would guess that there is a BE1 1.6 box fitted . . Hope this helps :)

I agree, other than noise the filter kit doesnt give any gains, chances are your on a 1.6 box. Go and run it up to 60mph on a dual carriagewy in 4th and post back what RPM it is at that speed. Sure someone can then confirm this for you :)
