Mi16 Into 205

Recommended Posts

hey all

i've fitted a mi16, 1905cc to my 205 freg(1989).

I am going to put the newer pedal with the hook to run the mi16 gearbox, with a be3 clutch cable.

my issue that I have currently is:

The mi16 gearbox has slightly different gear rod linkages to my old be1 box on my 8v engine. I am unsure as to how they differ, yet i was wondering if I can take the gear link rod from my old gearbox and fit to the mi16 box, which I would hope would be an easy resolve to the issue here. this is my biggest issue at the current stage of the transplant. to try and help me explain this a little better, the gear linkage which I am trying to describe to you can be seen here on a 205 vehicle, which is not mine http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o257/du.../Picture375.jpg

I dont know how to explain this very well, but basically using the 205 gear linkages the new gearbox ball joints seem out of place on just the one aspect, the longest one which runs parallel to the engine seems fine, yet it is just this which seems to be out of shape compared to what it is on the be1 box.

I've highlighted it here in red http://img359.imageshack.us/img359/2843/gearboxrx6.jpg this is what is on my gearbox from the 8v engine! looks nothing like the one on the mi16 gearbox! I cannot find any pictures to help me explain this any better to you.

Presumeably your MI gearbox has the sort of L shaped bracket instead of the flat one on the left of the last picture? If so then these two parts (on the MI and 8v boxes) are interchangeable, which would then make the gear linkages the same as on the 8v. The linkage has a roll pin on it which will need driving out, then the linkage just wiggles off. Be sure not to let the selector shaft drop into the gearbox or you will be missing some gears when you go to pull away!
