Can You Fit Leccy Windows To Windy Windows?

Recommended Posts

tonycj

Been thinking for a while about fitting leccy windows but not to sure how easy it is?

Every time i go to the scrappys there is a 5 door 205 with leccy windows, and if you lot say its easy to fit then ill do it, how does the loom fit the loom in my car? and whats the fitting of the switches and loom like? do i need to fit relays and fuses?

The mechanical side of things im fine with its the leccy side of things im not sure about!

Look forward to the results!

Tony.

And i am going to bed now!!!

yes it is pretty straightforward to fit them, a few nuts to the regulator and unclip it from the glass and manoeuvre it out through the hole.

the only stumbling block you may come across is the wiring, check that your car has the wires in the doors for the motor (2 pin JPT type plug)

if you dont have the wiring try and get all the wiring from the doner car.

did this on my old xs and wasnt to much of a pain. from what i remember its just a case of wiring it to the fuse box with a relay and fuse.

dont forget to get the little plastic thing that plugs the winder hole up from the doner car, and this might help you with the wiring (had it saved on me pc from when i was planning to do it, i have a feeling it came of this forum)

Drivers side;

• 92, from fuse box, splits going to each switch, 92b is for passenger side control. 92 for drivers window.

• M1, M2, M3 & M4 are earths.

• 96 & 97 go to window motor.

• 94 & 96 go from passenger window across to passenger side switch.

Passenger side;

• 92a from fuse box.

• 94A & 96A to window motor.

• 94 & 96 From driver passenger control switch.

the codes you are looking for are printed on to the wires near the ends (plugs) and maybe in the loom aswell.

, the single passenger switch controls it own motor only, has a 12v feed, and 2 wires from the drivers side.

the drivers side switches are a bit harder. the passenger window one has a 12v feed, 2 wires are earth and 2 wires that connect to the passenger side. the drivers window has 2 earths, 1 12v feed, and 2 wires to the motor.

the 2 wires that go across the car ar configered so that when the drivers switch is not pressed the 2 earths are sent to the passenger switch(called motor lock) and allows the passenger switch to work. if the driver presses the pasenger switch then 12 and earth are passed down the 2 wires and operated the window.

you need to sort out your switch first, 5 pins call then 12345, with out switch pressed, then 2 &3 should connet to 4&5 (motor lock) pin 1 has 12v on it, 4 &5 go to motor and 2&3 go to drivers side. with switch pressed in one direction either 2 or 3 will connect to 4 or 5 , earth return from motor and pin 1 12v will connect to the other one of 4 &5. vice versa for the swich in the other direction.

Wires: two of the wires go to the passenger side, 1 wire has 12v on it and 2wires have an earth.

connect up the 12 and 2 earths and then connect the remaining 2.

some of that might be irrelevant but worth a read anyway

john

Check to see if yuouve got the loom in the door. My ph2 didn't but it did have the fuse already there in the box and all the wiring up to the door - all I had to do was plug a second hand door loom in at the door-body socket (and obviously fit the leccy window bits and switches).

Although i havent checked my own door loom, all the other door looms i have checked havent got a plug-in type door loom, they are just a section of the car loom that does through the door, via a rubber convaluted section into the central locking etc.

So now i am a little confused?

can anyone explain ?

Another question i have is:- can 3 or 5 door window assy's fit a 5 door car?

Look forward to your answers.

Tony.

Plugs are fitted to Ph2 - earlier ones go through an "extended trunky grommet  " - I like the earlier ones much more.

You can fit the motors onto your winder mechanism - there will be excess shaft (that the handle goes on) which will need to be cut off and a small self tapping screw needs to be forced in between this shaft and the motor.

Wiring as above
